Summer is upon us at our beautiful senior living community in Cottonwood Heights, UT, and we’re ready to get outside and experience the best our city has to offer! Never been here before? Located just outside of Salt Lake City, and neighboring Midvale, UT, Cottonwood Heights is considered to be one of Utah's most vibrant cities. Whether you prefer to live in a quiet, more natural setting, or love to experience the big city life, Canyon Creek Senior Living offers the best of both worlds.

"Canyon Creek offers its residents a number of opportunities to get involved within the community. These activities helped me acclimate and flourish in my new surroundings," Kaye Barnes, a resident of 5 years told us.

"I enjoy going on the outings. We visit points of interest, dine at local restaurants, and attend events happening in the city," resident Dorothy Beckstrand explained.

Since we’re located so close to Salt Lake City proper, we're able to take frequent and fun trips into the city (see our monthly activities calendar to see what's planned this month!). A few of our favorite spots to visit? To name of a few:

The exhibits at the Planetarium and The Leo change often, which allows us to learn and experience new things each time we go. Some of our residents enjoy the IMAX at The Leo, as well.

Enjoying the Natural Beauty of Our Surroundings

"I chose Canyon Creek because of its setting. It doesn’t feel like another building sitting along the road, it features a trickling creek lined with tall, Cottonwood trees," resident Kaye Burns explained.

While it's great to live near the city, we value the tranquil and natural setting of our tight-knit senior living community. Being located in Cottonwood Heights, outside the hustle and bustle of city life, allows our residents to be close to nature, whenever they want. We are close to rivers, mountains, national parks, and hiking, affording us an endless list of outdoor activities year-round. We can take scenic drives, enjoy beautiful group walks, or go on trips to Silver Lake; whatever our residents like best.

The Weather: The Best of Both Worlds

Utah is a state that doesn’t stop when the weather gets cold (and it does get cold here in the winter). Even though it can get a little chilly, we have beautiful weather year-round, finding fun and engaging activities to suit the season.

  • In the winter, we have crisp, sunny days and lots of pristine snow. If we're up for it, there are many opportunities to ski or snowshoe, but if we're looking for something more low-key, we can always build snowmen and make snow angels with our neighbors--or simply cozy up inside and enjoy some hot cocoa by the fire.
  • Spring is mild and colorful with blossoms and freshly sprouted grass, so we take long walks in the park and have picnics.
  • Summer is warm (usually in the 80s and 90s), so we swim, play tennis, walk our dogs, and work on our gardens.
  • The fall is a beautiful time of year, with sunny days, mild temperatures, and crisp, autumn air. We visit pumpkin patches, bake apple pies, and cozy up with a good book or movie in the evenings.

And when our residents aren't outside enjoying the fabulous Utah weather and its natural beauty, there is never a shortage of things to do at Canyon Creek. From pet therapy, to exercise classes (such as Tai Chi!), to themed parties, there's something for everyone.
