WOW! Moments: A Surprise Visit

Just this past February, we organized a WOW! Moment for one of our beloved and longtime residents, Joan. Joan had been living at Canyon Creek Senior Living for about three years, and back in January, needed to go to rehab. Nadeen, our Community Relations Director, went to go visit Joan. Joan was feeling quite sad and expressed how much she missed all of her table mates and fellow residents and that she couldn’t wait to see them.

Joan loved living at Canyon Creek. Among her favorite activities were BINGO—she absolutely loved it! Joan especially enjoyed the musical entertainment; in fact, she knew the words to every song! She loved going down to meals to chat with all her friends.

When Nadeen returned from her visit with Joan and told our staff about how much Joan missed her friends at Canyon Creek, we knew we needed to plan something special. So, our staff decided to plan a surprise visit! We arranged for her friends to all go to the rehab center to surprise her. En route, we stopped by the store to get her a card and some flowers!

When we arrived, Joan was so incredibly happy to see us! Everyone had an amazing visit and Joan called us later to tell us how much our visit meant to her.

Update: Unfortunately, Joan passed away at that rehab about a month ago. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of her friends and family. Joan was an amazing woman, with a remarkably joyous, witty, and friendly personality. The Canyon Creek family feels incredibly blessed to have been able to get to know her. Our hearts go out to all of the other individuals who had the honor of knowing Joan.
